Sea turtles | ウミガメ
Yakushima is also known as the largest sea turtle nesting ground in Japan.
屋久島は、日本最大のウミガメの産卵地であることでも知られています。
Every year, between May and August, the endangered loggerhead turtle and the green turtle visit Nagata Inaka Beach, and other beaches, to lay their eggs. During this period, Nagata Inaka Beach, the largest nesting ground for loggerhead turtles in the North Pacific, is closed to humans at night, and it can only be accessed with a guide.
毎年5月から8月にかけて、絶滅危惧種である「アカウミガメ」や「アオウミガメ」が、「永田いなか浜」などの浜に産卵に訪れます。この期間、北太平洋最大のアカウミガメの産卵地である「永田いなか浜」は、夜間は人の立ち入りが禁止され、ガイドがいないと入ることはできません。
The people of Yakushima do their best to protect the sea turtles and the beach, and give guidelines to visitors to do the same.
We hope many sea turtles can hatch and go to sea this year too! ^^
屋久島の人々は、ウミガメや海岸を守るために最善を尽くし、観光客にも協力を呼びかけています。
