Rice Paddy Relay | リレー水田
Through the year, students of Yakushima Ohzora High School and volunteers take part of the “Rice paddy Relay”, where they grow rice on paddies that recreate the ones of the Jomon Period, following traditional organic techniques.
屋久島おおぞら高等学校の生徒たちとボランティアは、年間を通して「リレー水田」に参加し、縄文時代の水田を再現した「縄文水田」で、伝統的な手法で完全無農薬のお米を栽培しています。
Since the rice takes months to grow, the students take part of only one step of the process, learning the importance of communicating and trusting their partners as well as the ones that will be responsible for the next step.
お米の栽培には何カ月もかかるので、生徒たちは栽培過程の１つの段階だけに参加し、次の段階を担当するパートナーとのコミュニケーションや信頼の大切さを学びます。
Students and volunteers couldn’t come this month, but the teachers of Yakushima Ohzora High School came and took care of the corresponding step.
Thank you teachers for watching over the “Rice paddy Relay”, so students can continue with the process once they come back. ^^
今月は生徒たちとボランティアが来られませんでしたが、屋久島おおぞら高等学校の先生たちが、今回の作業をするために来てくれました。生徒たちが来たときにお米の栽培を続けられるように、先生たちが「リレー水田」を見守ってくれています。ありがとうございます^^
