Feijoa
Because of Yakushima’s unique weather, we are able to grow many kinds of international fruits.
This is the “Feijoa”, a fruit from Latin America that is also very popular in New Zealand and Australia.
It is an autumn fruit; the tree grows in warm weather, but needs a little bit of cold to bear fruit.
Last week, a volunteer from Hong Kong did the pick-up of this pesticide-free grown Feijoa and had the chance to try it.
屋久島特有の気候のおかげで、私達は多くの種類の国際的な果物を育てることができます。
これは、ニュージーランドやオーストラリアでも大人気の、ラテンアメリカで採れる「フェイジョア」です。
秋の果物です。暖かい気候で育ちますが、実を結ぶには少しの寒さが必要です。
先週、香港から来たボランティアスタッフは、この無農薬のフェイジョアを収穫し、試食する機会がありました。

“They taste like a mix of kiwi and guava, very sweet. Yum～”
「キウイとグァバを混ぜたような味で、とても甘い。美味しい～」
That’s right! This plant belongs to the Myrtaceae family and actually related to Guava.
Even though the volunteer didn’t know it, she could tell from the taste!
