A year of reborn｜生まれ変わる一年に

新しい一年が始まりました。
A new year has begun.

今年は日本では「巳年」と呼ばれ、蛇が脱皮するように「新しい自分に生まれ変われる年」
になると言われています。
This year is called the “Year of the Snake” in Japan, and it is said that this year will be “the
year in which you will be reborn as a new person,” like a snake shedding its skin.

写真は蛇…ではなく「ツマベニチョウ」の幼虫ですが、彼らは外敵から身を守るために蛇に
擬態しているそうです。
The photo is not a snake, but a larva of a “Great Orange Tip Butterfly (Hebomoia
glaucippe)”, but apparently they disguise themselves as snakes to protect themselves from
predators.

幼虫も冬を越えて大きくなりました。
The larvae also grew larger over the winter.

春はもうすぐですね。
Spring is almost here.
